Maintenance Tips for Keeping Your Glass Backsplash Looking New

Clear glass tiles

A fresh-looking backsplash always makes a positive impression, whether in the kitchen, the bathroom, or both. However, like any household feature, your backsplash could begin looking dingy and worse for wear without regular maintenance. So, what’s required to keep the backsplash fresh and appealing? Check out this list of maintenance tips courtesy of CBD Glass.

Clean Regularly

Kitchen wall tiles

You don’t have to scour your glass backsplash every single day, especially if yours has a matte or textured finish. Those are better at obscuring smudges and water marks, while clear glass shows these blemishes as clear as day.

Depending on how often you use your kitchen and your backsplash location, you might clean it every day, every other day, or even once a week. Regardless of the schedule you set, commit to regular cleaning.

Skip the Heavy-Duty Products

Glass doesn’t require harsh chemicals and tough products to get it clean. You can use mild dish soap, preferably uncolored and unscented for easier cleaning. Moisten a microfiber cloth, squirt some dish soap, and then suds it up. Now you’re ready to remove smudges and stains.

On a related note, skip abrasive cleaners with hard bristles and rough surfaces. You could end up scratching the glass.

Eradicate Streaks

How you dry your glass backsplash can combat streaks effectively. Wipe the water from the glass using a clean, dry microfiber cloth, rubbing the cloth in one direction from one long side of the backsplash to the other. Repeat this motion across the entire backsplash.

If you didn’t get it quite right and you still have some streaks, glass cleaner can polish your backsplash in a jiffy and remove those stubborn marks.

Don’t Let Spills Linger

Does glass stain? No. And does it absorb messes? Also no, but why take the chance? If you spill something on your backsplash, be it meat juices, oil, or hard water, you should do yourself a favor and wipe the messes away as soon as you can. You only need a damp cloth to remove most messes fast, which you can’t say if you let them linger.

Safeguard Your Grout

Modern backsplash ideas

If yours is a tile backsplash with grout, then you know all too well how easily the grout can become discolored and dirty. This takes away from the beauty of your glass backsplash, making this feature more of an eyesore.

Keep grout looking clean and white with an unused toothbrush. Make a baking soda paste, then apply the paste to the brush. Scrub the stains on the grout lines one by one until they look white and clean again.

Every few years, you might want to consider resealing the grout so it can’t stain as easily in the future.

Bearing these tips in mind, you can have a backsplash that augments your home, be it the kitchen or bathroom. Connect with CBD Glass to discuss your custom glass backsplash plans.
