How to Organize Kitchen Countertop Clutter

You do your best to keep your kitchen countertop clean, but with so many people sharing a house, sometimes the task seems downright impossible. You tidy up before work only to come home at the end of the day and find the countertop a mess all over again!

Okay, you’ve decided it’s time to do something about the kitchen countertop clutter once and for all. By following these tips, you can get your countertop clean and keep it that way.

Get a Backsplash Shelf

A backsplash shelf not only keeps your kitchen walls safeguarded from gunk and other messes, but it’s functional, too. You can build it with little shelves for holding spice containers or longer, taller shelves for your bottles like olive oil or vegetable oil. The top of the shelf can even stash some mugs and glasses.

Try Tiered Shelving

In the same vein as a backsplash shelf is tiered kitchen countertop shelving. This may have one or two tiers to it, but the more, the better. With more space than a backsplash shelf, you can add things like glasses, salt and pepper shakers, measuring cups, tea glasses, and so much more. Just make sure you don’t over-stack the tiers or they could tip!

Be Crafty with a Cake Plate

If you have a cake plate you’re not using, by placing a dish towel on it, it becomes a fabulous organizer. You can keep things like your liquid soap containers, sponges, and other sink-side essentials.

Use Metal Hanging Baskets

Here’s a smart one. Take a long metal rod and affix it beneath your kitchen cabinets. Then slide on several metal hanging baskets. You can organize such clutter as countertop plants, jars, bottles, and other items that never had a home before. Now they do and it looks nice, too!

Build Your Own Wooden Shelves

If your kitchen cabinets and drawers leave something to be desired, then build your own storage with simple wooden wall shelves. These don’t need a lot of flourishes, as the basic look adds a rustic flair to any kitchen. You can keep glasses, mugs, and other odds and ends on these homemade shelves.

Rely on Tiered Corner Shelving

Metal corner shelves that stand on legs are a great solution to a huge disorganization problem. You can set up these shelves wherever you need them most, as they’re portable. Since they’re made of durable metal, feel free to stack the shelves with plates, bowls, glasses, containers, bottles, and almost anything else your heart desires.
